# The words used

**Narrator.** Every word this book explains, in one place, each with the chapter where the full book first explains it, or first uses it in its prose (figure lines not counted). Nothing here is new: each line is the book's own, from its word boxes, from the 70-page edition's list, and three the full book adds.

- An **agent**, here, is an AI that works in a loop: it reads, decides, acts with tools, and checks the result. *(chapter 1)*
- The **blind team**, the Cold-Read team, read the talk's record in a separate repository with nothing of this book's work but the hand-off that started it; nothing went the other way. *(chapter 19)*
- The **board** is a folder per member of its own work, sorted into open, blocked and done. *(chapter 10)*
- The **build** turns the project's files into the site. *(chapter 2)*
- The **check** (the team called it the gate) runs before every change goes out, and refuses the change if anything on its list fails. *(chapter 2)*
- A **commit** is one saved change to a repository, with a time and a short message saying what changed. *(chapter 4)*
- The **conductor** is the agent that keeps the team's time and plan. *(chapter 3)*
- A **debrief** is the short note an agent writes at the end of each wake. *(chapter 6)*
- A **follow-up** is a wake a member starts itself, to finish something. *(chapter 6)*
- To **freeze** something is the same idea as a lock, said in a hurry: nobody touches it until it is unfrozen. *(chapter 16)*
- The **gate** is the check every change must pass before it goes out. *(chapter 7)*
- A **handover** is the note one session leaves for the session that takes its place. *(chapter 20)*
- A **hold** is one short file that stops every agent until the person in charge says go. *(chapter 3)*
- The clock in the margin counts the talk's day in **hours**: hour one runs from midnight to a minute before one, and the talk was due as hour nineteen ended. *(chapter 4)*
- To **lock** a part is to mark it final, so that no agent may change it again. *(chapter 16)*
- The **mailroom** is a folder per member where others leave it letters. *(chapter 10)*
- An **open wake** is one that started and never closed on the team's branch, like deck's of 18:20, still open when the hold came. *(chapter 16)*
- The **player** is the part of the talk's site that let me press play on stage. *(chapter 1)*
- A **repository** is the project's folder, with its whole history kept. *(chapter 4)*
- A **reviewer** is a second agent that reads the plan before the work and the result after it. *(chapter 7)*
- A member's **scope** is the list of files and folders it may change. *(chapter 6)*
- A **session** is one agent's working life: the conversation it runs in, from its first instruction to its last. *(chapter 20)*
- A **wake** is one turn of work by one agent. *(chapter 7)*
- A **wake record** is the file each wake leaves behind, with every step's verdict and a sentence on why. *(chapter 7)*
- A **Wardley map** is a picture that shows what something depends on and how settled each part is. *(chapter 8)*

### Where this came from

The full book's own word boxes, chapter by chapter. The 70-page edition's list of the words used, for the words the full book uses without a box. The margin clock's hours as the register sets them (C110; the conductor's CK1). Chapter 16 for the open wake and chapter 19 for the blind team. The storyteller's outline for the back matter.

## The numbers in this chapter

From the researcher's register (`claims/register.json`).

- **C110** The day by clock hour, for the margin clock: commits, agents' commits, wakes and members on stage in and up to each clock hour:

- rule: **hour N is the clock hour (N-1):00 to (N-1):59 of 29 October; the first commit (00:16) is in hour 1, the hold (18:44) and the last release (18:46) in hour 19**
