# The words used

**Narrator.** Every word this edition explains, in one place, each with the chapter where it is first explained. Nothing here is new: each line is the book's own.

- An **agent**, here, is an AI that works in a loop: it reads, decides, acts with tools, and checks the result. *(chapter 1)*
- The **board** is a folder per member of its own work, sorted into open, blocked and done. *(chapter 6)*
- The **build** turns the project's files into the site. *(chapter 3)*
- The **check** (the team called it the gate) runs before every change goes out, and refuses the change if anything on its list fails. *(chapter 3)*
- A **commit** is one saved change to a repository, with a time and a short message saying what changed. *(chapter 3)*
- The **conductor** is the agent that keeps the team's time and plan. *(chapter 2)*
- A **debrief** is the short note an agent writes at the end of each wake. *(chapter 5)*
- A **follow-up** is a wake a member starts itself, to finish something. *(chapter 7)*
- To **freeze** something is the same idea as a lock, said in a hurry: nobody touches it until it is unfrozen. *(chapter 10)*
- A **handover** is the note one session leaves for the session that takes its place. *(chapter 13)*
- A **hold** is one short file that stops every agent until the person in charge says go. *(chapter 2)*
- To **lock** a part is to mark it final, so that no agent may change it again. *(chapter 10)*
- The **mailroom** is a folder per member where others leave it letters. *(chapter 6)*
- The **player** is the part of the talk's site that let me press play on stage. *(chapter 1)*
- A **repository** is the project's folder, with its whole history kept. *(chapter 3)*
- A **reviewer** is a second agent that reads the plan before the work and the result after it. *(chapter 5)*
- A member's **scope** is the list of files and folders it may change. *(chapter 4)*
- A **session** is one agent's working life: the conversation it runs in, from its first instruction to its last. *(chapter 13)*
- A **trigger** is what starts a wake. *(chapter 7)*
- A **wake** is one turn of work by one agent, on its own clock. *(chapter 5)*
- A **wake record** is the file each wake leaves behind, with every step's verdict and a sentence on why. *(chapter 5)*
- A **Wardley map** is a picture that shows what something depends on and how settled each part is. *(chapter 5)*
