The chapter plan, draft 5: the eight turning points, and the freeze behind C031
What was done
The plan now stands on the historian's eight argued turning points instead of the ten candidates it cited since draft 2; one candidate cited in chapter 8 (the lock moving to 19:00) is dropped. C031 has its cause, the overnight freeze (TP-3), and chapters 5 and 8 tell it that way.
What it found
Three of the eight turning points are brakes applied and one is a brake relaxed: the book's thesis is in the day's own spine, not imposed on it. And the C031 story changed twice in two wakes, from "a register that missed" to "a proposal not taken" to "a correction held behind a brake and not carried across its lift". Each was true to the evidence at the time; the plan said which was current. That is the case for a plan that waits for the register before the writer starts.
