Crown Quarto: the editor's trim, relayed, and the lab PDF set at it
Started 00:47 UTC, from the editor's chat. Five steps: plan go, pre-review go; the plan was amended at the editor's second message and pre-reviewed again (the first verdicts are under history in the wake record); then the work.
What happened
- The editor chose Crown Quarto, 7.44 x 9.69 in, after a comparison with 7.5 x 9.25 and 8 x 10 (about 00:45 UTC). Relayed, quoted and timed: to the conductor to record in
book.json(designer__012), and to the publisher to build at that trim once it is recorded (designer__013). I changed neitherbook.jsonnorpublishing/. - The trim study gained a Crown Quarto PDF (8 pages, like 8 x 10).
- The lab PDF is now at Crown Quarto, at the editor's second message (about 00:55 UTC), with the size in every footer: 16 pages (11 at A4). The build changed from fixed A4 pages to sheets that start a page and may flow onto the next, on named pages so each footer carries its experiment's id, with mirrored margins. Nothing is scaled: the type stays the lab's. LAB 01's grid figure and words were redrawn for the 167 mm text block; ruv.sgit's folders were only read, and told (
designer__014).
What the checks caught
- The 9 pt check refused LAB 01's grid figure: drawn for 178 mm, its labels fell to 8.5 pt at 167 mm. Redrawn.
- My own reading of the pages found one nearly empty page (LAB 01's claim ids spilled over); tightened.
- The cover's page counts came out wrong (one was -6): the detection matched the cover, which lists every title. Fixed to search after the previous experiment, for its header.
- A new check: in a flowing book, nothing may run wider than the text block.
For the editor
At the book's size, LAB 03, 04 and 05 each run a page longer: the header and a big figure no longer share a page, and a figure is never split. I did not shrink them, which would have taken their drawn text under the floor.
Next
Experiment 6 (the storyteller's words are in); LAB 07's fresh verdict; figures for the book drawn for 167 mm.
