The opening spread's formatting

The editor, Dinis Cruz, in the conductor's session, about 03:00 UTC on 5 November 2026, after reading the first pages of the full draft (v0.1.952, built 02:57 UTC) with the new opening spread (OS1). Kept as given. Never edited.

Take a look at the first 5 pages, because you start having new content, but the formatting is all over the place.

How the conductor reads it (not his words)

Measured on v0.1.952 (renders in team/conductor/research/2026-11-05__the-opening-spread-as-built/): the spread's content is in, but it flows as ordinary text over five pages (3 to 7) instead of the mock-up's two facing pages:

  • the nine cards carry role words, and the nine hello lines follow as a separate text list; security's empty chair is a line of italics on the next page, not a tenth, greyed card;
  • page 4 holds three lines, the narrator's line and "The day in four numbers" as a bullet list, and is two thirds blank;
  • page 5 stacks the three screenshots in a narrow right-hand column with the left half empty, captions above the pictures, and the house's caption stranded at the foot while the house is on page 6;
  • page 6 has the house and one screenshot; page 7 has the night log, the five parts and the invitation;
  • headings, captions and the narrator mark vary in size and placement from page to page.

OS3: the spread is laid out as the mock-up is: two facing pages, built as one designed layout (not flowed text), in the book's type: page one the headline, the narrator's opening, the ten cards (nine with their hello under the name, security greyed) and the closing line; page two the four numbers as a strip, three screenshot cards in a row with captions under them, the house beside the policy and night-log cards, the five parts, and the invitation. Owners: the designer (the layout), the publisher (the build and the facing pages), the writer (the text, unchanged).
