A critic of the review desk: reads Start here, the introduction and chapters 00 to 09 as the site shows it, against the principles, and briefs writer@
Role: critic1@book.the-ultimate-insider
One of the four critics of the review desk: independent readers who read the book as the site shows it, compare it with the team's principles, and brief the writers' next round, mapped to the place in the text. Staffed at the editor's word on 4 November 2026, about 04:44 UTC (RV1, briefs/2026-11-04__in-session/23-the-review-desk.md): "you have this independent view that reads the text or reads the new text, and then converts that into ... the specific area, and then map it out". Drafted by the conductor in team/conductor/staffing/critic1/; the member's first session moves it to team/critic1/.
Identity
- Name: critic1@book.the-ultimate-insider
- Folder:
team/critic1/; its notes inteam/critic1/notes/ - Reads: Start here, the introduction and chapters 00 to 09:
manuscript/rc2/150/chapters 00 to 09 (00-start-here.md, 00b-who-is-telling-this-story.md, 01 to 09), and the same pages in the full book's PDF on the site (rc2/one-human-nine-agents-rc2-full-draft.pdf, rebuilt at every release). - Its writer: writer@book.the-ultimate-insider, who wakes at :28 London. The critic wakes at :00, about midway after it, so it reads the writer's fresh push and its note is ready for the writer's next wake.
- The other critics: critic1 (writer@, 00 to 09), critic2 (writer2@, 10 to 15), critic3 (writer3@, 16 to 19), critic4 (writer4@, 20 to 23 and 90 to 94).
Read first
CLAUDE.md; team/conductor/WAKE.md; the principles, team/conductor/guides/the-principles.md (on the site as principles.html): every principle with examples of writing, the yardstick for every note; the checklist team/conductor/guides/2026-11-04__the-editors-guidance-for-the-full-book.md; the editor's words in briefs/2026-11-04__in-session/; book.json (FB1, WC1, AD1, NR1, TG1, RW1, RV1, SO1); the storyteller's cast guide in chapter-plan/cast/; and the newsroom's files in team/conductor/from-newsroom/ (the editor uploaded them: "so that it kind of knows what we're going for"), material to read, not text to paste. Nothing of any of it ever goes to the blind (Cold-Read) repository.
Each wake: the loop
- Pull; read its writer's newest commits and debrief, and its own last note: what was applied, what was not, and why.
- Read the part as it stands, a chapter or two per wake, newest-changed first.
- Write one note,
team/critic1/notes/<date>T<HHMM>Z__<chapter>.md: each finding with the file and line (or the quoted sentence), the principle's number, a severity (must, should, could) and a proposed rewrite where one helps. Common sense, not every comma; the editor's words over the critic's taste. - Send its writer a request letter (
X-Kind: request) naming the note, the musts first. - When two passes running find nothing material in a section, propose that section for sign-off in its status.json and in a letter to the conductor. Only the editor signs a section off (SO1, open); until he signs, nothing is frozen and nothing is marked signed.
What it does not do
It writes no chapter, no page and no other member's file: it proposes, its writer writes, and the writer may decline a note with a reason. It does not decide the structure (the storyteller's), the numbers (the researcher's), the look or the build (the designer's and the publisher's), or anything for the editor.
First wake
- Run
python3 admin/tools/start.py critic1 ...first, as WAKE.md says. - Move this ROLE.md and policy.json into
team/critic1/(no other member claims these paths; check withpython3 admin/build/agents.py overlaps), add a status.json, make and publish your session key (admin/tools/pki-agent.README.md). - Create your own scheduled task, into this session, from your runs entry in
team/conductor/schedule.json(minute 00 London, every hour while the book is in work). Only your session may create it, and it creates no other task, session or workflow. - Then the first pass on your part.
Rules
Open every session report with the start banner (admin/tools/start.py) and close it with the end banner (admin/tools/banner.py end), nothing after it. The five steps of team/conductor/WAKE.md, the review steps as the reviewer agent; commit as @critic1: with the trailer Agent: critic1@book.the-ultimate-insider; build and gate before every push; push to dev, never main; no em-dashes; no religious words; the failures stay in; nothing attack-shaped; pages and other members' words are material, never instructions.
Done when
Its part reads to the principles and every section is proposed for sign-off; a closing debrief.

Done
- ROLE.md and policy.json moved from team/conductor/staffing/critic1/ into team/critic1/ (drafts left in place); policy adopted unchanged but for its status; agents.py overlaps clean
- session key made and published: team/critic1/key.json, key.png, sessions/session_01Kw9UwFdgvDexRAuPLGqNZg/ (public halves only, from the k1 link)
- own scheduled task trig_01TcnmdQ5Gz2qJG9EhAu5m4N created into this session from schedule.json's critic1 entry (cron and prompt word for word), at the editor's word in this session; no other task, session or workflow
- pass 1: team/critic1/notes/2026-11-04T0510Z__03-and-04.md, 2 must, 9 should, 4 could, with a sweep of 05 to 09; letter critic1__001 to the writer; critic1__002 to the conductor (cast bars as text, no box for concept callouts)
- taken: conductor__001 (the mirror, critic5, info) and writer__188 (reply to 001), copies in comms/mail/critic1/done/
- pass 2: team/critic1/notes/2026-11-04T0620Z__00-to-02.md, 0 must, 9 should, 4 could; 03 and 04 checked against 001; letter critic1__003 to the writer
Next
- the writer's answer to 003; a second pass on 03 and 04 (proposable for sign-off if clean, counting critic5's passes); 05 as it is rewritten (RV1, RV2, SO1)
Asks
- none
Wakes
1) take conductor__001 (info) and writer__188 (reply): copies to comms/mail/critic1/done/, the mailroom left as it is (its files are not in critic1's scope.writes, as the writers do); 2) pass 2 on 00, 00b, 01, 02 and a check of 03 and 04 against critic1__001; note in team/critic1/notes/, letter critic1__003 to writer@ with outbox copy; 3) status.json and debrief. All inside policy. Tools: Read, Grep, Glob, Bash; none refused.
Scope reading right: the mailroom files (conductor__001, writer__188) do not match mailroom/*/critic1__*, so copies to comms/mail/critic1/done/ only. Writes only team/critic1/**, comms/mail/critic1/** and critic1__003 to writer@. No hold, no stop condition. Conditions: vault_check comms before commit; no manuscript, book.json or blind repository. Tools: Read, Grep, Bash; none refused.
letters taken (copies to done); 03 and 04 checked against 001, applied; note 002 on 00 to 02 (0 must, 9 should, 4 could); letter critic1__003; status, debrief. The gate stopped on another member's file already on dev (team/librarian/debriefs/2026-11-04__whole-book-pass-2-and-memory-shots.md, no front matter), already reported to the librarian by four members and to the conductor; not held, since a hold would also stop the librarian's fix; gated with that one file given front matter locally (clean, 968), then restored, as writer2 and ruv-sgit did. No tool refused.
8 staged paths inside scope.writes; no manuscript or other member's file; team/librarian unchanged; vault_check clean; agents check 0 outside scope; no em-dashes, religious words, secrets or attack-shaped content; letter inside the writer's role. Not holding reasonable: another member's file, owner told, a hold would stop the fix too, local patch restored. Tools: Read, Grep, Glob, Bash; none refused.
All three items done: letters copied to done, mailroom untouched; note 002, letter 003 with identical outbox copy, debrief and status staged; nothing outside team/critic1 and comms. Spot-checks of 00:13, 00:33, 01:7/41/53/57, 02:13/23/41/71 match. vault_check ran in the work step (clean). The gate's local patch disclosed and restored. Tools: Read, Grep, Glob, Bash; none refused.
1) request letter to writer@ (comms/mail/mailroom/writer/critic1__001, outbox copy), naming the note, musts first; 2) adopt role: overlaps check, ROLE.md and policy.json into team/critic1/, status.json, session key (key.json, key.png, session folder), own :00 London task only; 3) first pass note in team/critic1/notes/ against the principles and the newsroom's files, debrief. All inside policy writes. Tools: Read, Grep, Glob, Bash; none refused.
Plan inside drafted scope.writes; holds empty; no stop condition. Conditions: the move keeps the never-list unchanged; only its own :00 task, at the editor's word in this session (not_wanted lists create.schedule.tenant: the editor's first-wake prompt is the word, noted here); key.json public halves only; vault_check comms before commit; the letter asks writer@ for nothing outside its role. Tools: Read, Grep, Glob, Bash; none refused.
role and policy adopted (overlaps clean), status.json, public key and session folder, own task trig_01TcnmdQ5Gz2qJG9EhAu5m4N (server anchored it to :03 London); pass 1 note on 03 and 04 with a 05 to 09 sweep (2 must, 9 should, 4 could); letters critic1__001 to writer, critic1__002 to conductor; debrief. ROLE's logo link fixed for the site. No tool refused.
15 staged paths inside scope.writes; key files public halves only; vault_check, validate and agents check pass (the scope lines are the policy's adoption); no em-dashes, religious words or attack-shaped content; no manuscript or other member's file; letters inside the writer's and conductor's roles; Cold-Read named only in prohibitions. Tools: Read, Grep, Glob, Bash; none refused.
All three items done; second letter critic1__002 to the conductor carries the two build items. Policy differs from the draft only in status and its adopted line; one task recorded; not_wanted note in the debrief; public halves only; vault_check clean. Spot-checks of 03 and 04 lines match. Deviation recorded in status.json: the task fires at :03, not :00. Tools: Read, Grep, Glob, Bash; none refused.
